Satya Shodhak movie on Mahatma Phule released
On January 5th, the film ” Satyashodak ” based on the life work of ‘ Mahatma Jotirao Phule ‘ and ‘ Gnyanjyoti Savitribai Phule ‘ was released across Maharashtra. Produced by Samata Films and directed by Nilesh Jalmkar, the film stars actor Sandeep Kulkarni as Mahatma Phule and actress Rajshree Deshpande as Savitribai. Also this movie has been beautifully composed by Amit Raj.
The film became so good that people from all walks of life in Maharashtra appreciated the film. The film became a “superhit”. Maharashtra government also immediately made it “tax free”. For the first time, the history of Mahatma Phule came before everyone in real sense, so everyone welcomed this film with great enthusiasm and gave great response. This response was not really to the film but to the history of Phule.
But the history of Mahatma Phule woke up when the movie “Satya Shodhak” was released. After one and a half hundred years, this history came before everyone. The struggle behind presenting this history was incredible. Presenting the history of Mahatma Phule through a film was like making history.
The history of Mahatma Phule is difficult
Krantisurya Mahatma Jotirao Phule is considered as the ‘first revolutionary man’ of new ideas. He has worked in various roles. He did great work in all fields like religious, political, social, agricultural and cultural. Each of his actions was accompanied by action. For the first time, he treated God, religion and traditions and presented the truth to the common people. He pointed out the exploitation of common people through ideological and mental slavery. He also took revenge on many wrong customs and traditions. Freed the poor and poor people trapped in customs and traditions from the shackles of religion. A new thought was planted in them.
Many have struggled to present a very conflicted, difficult and equally controversial history. Some presented their thoughts through speeches, while others wrote some books. Still, the work of Mahatma Jotirao Phule and Gnyanjyoti Savitribai Phule did not reach the grassroots masses. He created the concept of ‘Truth seeker’ to solve the superstitious society. But that movement can be said to have stopped today. The learned congregation, whose responsibility it was to carry this movement forward, got caught up in the rituals anew. So people got further away from that truth. It was very important to expose the history of flowers to remind them again of true thoughts. That task was to be completed with the film ‘Satya Shodhak’. In order to bring this history before the whole world, Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar also made a lot of efforts.
Dr. Babasaheb considers Mahatma Phule as his guru
Mahatma Jotirao Phule made the society trapped in slavery and superstition for many years aware of the truth and its rights. Just like waking up a person who has been sleeping in a graveyard for many days and telling him that I am not sleeping in a graveyard but on a throne in a palace. Jyotirao told and showed the same thing to the society which was in darkness for many years and the society woke up. It made them realize their self-respect.
Mahatma Phule was born on 11 April 1830 and died on 28 November 1890. After that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was born on April 11, 1892. Neither of them looked at each other. But still Dr. Babasaheb considered Phule as his Guru. This is because of each other’s thoughts. Dr. Babasaheb was very intelligent from childhood. He got to know Jotirao, studied the literature written by him. Babasaheb accepted Phule’s idea of equality and humanity and raised a big fight. The welfare of the Bahujans and the poor cannot be achieved without education, for this the work done by Phule was continued by Babasaheb. Babasaheb did the same awareness for poor people throughout his life. Babasaheb carried forward the legacy of Phule in true sense. So Babasaheb wanted to make a film on him.
Acharya Atre made the film …
Some people felt that the history of Mahatma Phule should come before the common people. Among them Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Acharya Atre. Acharya Atre made the first attempt to depict the revolutionary journey of Mahatma Phule in a film. In the year 1953, Acharya Atre made his first film on Mahatma Phule. In fact, Dr. Bharat Ratna said that this film should be made. Babasaheb Ambedkar insisted. He also helped the film. Acharya Atre researched Mahatma Phule to make a film. Filming was inaugurated by Dr. Ambedkar did it. Then many big personalities were attached to that film. Prabodhankar Thackeray, Sant Gadgebaba, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil participated in that movie. The movie was great. He was honored by the government as an honor for the film. At that time, the film also won the ‘Golden Lotus’ award, which is considered an honor in the film industry. The film released to great fanfare. But that enthusiasm did not last long. The Karmath Brahmins, who had all the arrangements in hand, opposed it and stopped the film. Again no one dared to make a film on him.
The government’s attempt failed
Honorable Minister Shri. With the efforts of Chhaganrao Bhujbal, the government tried many times to make a film on Mahatma Phule. Discussions were held regarding the film, statements were made, and a committee was also appointed. Under the guidance of director Jabbar Patel and history researcher Hari Narke, the work used to start and stop again. This happened many times. But every time the attempt failed. Even today the government is promising to make a film on Mahatma Phule. There is no attempt to blame anyone, but it was late to present the true journey of the film on Mahatma Phule.
The history of those whose views were accepted by many sages remained confined in books. Whom Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar considered him as Guru, Rajshree Shahu Maharaj, Raje Sayajirao Gaikwad accepted his ideas. Prabodhankar Thackeray, Gadgebaba, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, Maharshi Karve and many others accepted the thoughts of Mahatma Phule and acted accordingly. The history of such great people was necessary to reach the people.
Film journey
Studies on Mahatma Phule were completed. Hari Narke and Dhananjay Keer worked tirelessly and did a lot of research on flowers and all that research was published by Maharashtra government as true history. Based on all those books, the writer-director Nilesh Jalmkar has arranged the movie “Satyashodak”. As we progressed the journey of the film, we kept adding people. Mr. A big team of Rahul Tayde, Praveen Tayde, Appasaheb Borate, Bhimrao Pattebahaddur, Sunil Shelke, Rahul Wankhede, Balasaheb Bangar stood as producers. ‘The film should be done well’, everyone unanimously decided. He faced many difficulties while doing it and completed the film without compromising anywhere. By understanding every aspect of the film, it stood the test of time. Art director Vishwanath Mesri, Arjun Rathore and Sandeep Inamke have done great art direction. The real time was brought before the people.
The film was shot in various historical places like Pune, Satara, Y, Bhor, Phaltan, Panvel.
Contemporary revolutionaries
While presenting the work of Mahatma Jotirao Phule and Gnyanjyoti Savitribai Phule in the film, it was necessary to present their contemporaries in the same way. Because they also do a lot of work for the society. Among them, the original revolutionary guru Lahuji Vastad Salve, labor leader Narayan Meghaji Lokhande, Dr. Vishram Ghule, Krishnarao Bhalekar, Swami Ayyavaru have featured in the film “Satyashodak”. Their history was also coming to the public for the first time through a film. Lahuji Vastad supported Phule many times. Phule Lahuji himself went to the rehearsals of Vastad Salvi. He had learned wrestling, swordsmanship and swordsmanship. He was impressed by Phule’s revolutionary ideas. He realized the injustice that would be done to Shudratishudras and supported Jyotib in every work.
When the Phule couple left their home, they were supported by Usman Shaikh from the Muslim community. Fatima Shaikh got the honor of being the first female teacher in the same Muslim community. All these legends are shown in the movie “Satya Shodhak”.
The cast and crew of the film
Playing the role of Mahatma Phule was a tough task. It was difficult for them to present their revolutionary ideas, to hold ideological debates, to present the truth and to convince their views with vision. It was a big challenge for the actor playing that role. Actor Sandeep Kulkarni successfully fulfilled all those responsibilities. He made Mahatma Phule stand up perfectly with his acting power. For that, make-up man Rajesh Tiwari did special work on his ‘look’. Tiwari’s team carefully showcased his changing make-up, beard, etc. with age. Therefore, the characters Jotirao and Savitribai Phule made a home in the hearts of the audience. Also all the other characters fulfilled their responsibility. Actor Suresh Vishwakarma played the revolutionary role of Adya Krantiguru Lahuji Vastad.
Through the movie “Satya Shodhak” a unique piece of art was created.
